After a brief break between the semesters of academic year 2009 - 2010, the Sewanee Women’s Basketball team came back to the Mountain to get down to business. Starting January 8, they hosted three consecutive games, two of which they won (against College of St. Scholastica and Birmingham-Southern College, respectively), and one of which they lost by eight points. Five of the women, Claire Elliot, Dani Kabbes, Julienne Joyner, Jamie Robinson, and Logan Miller, scored in the double digits in the game against College of St. Scholastica, contributing to a final score of 83-79.
In the Birmingham-Southern College contest, Christina Johnson, Lauren Gulley, and Dani Kabbes all scored in the double digits, while the team as a whole made 61% of the game’s free throws, for a final score of 73-68.
The next four games were off the mountain. Details of note include Lauren Gulley’s 23 points against Centre, and 21 points against Southwestern(putting her at a total of 44 points in just two games), as well as 15 points scored by Jamie Robinson against Trinity.
The next three games were located at home. Though the first was a 92-56 win against Oakwood College, the two that followed were losses. Logan Miller scored sixteen against Oakwood, Christina Johnson had fifteen against Colorado College, and Kelly Morrison ended the Austin College game with 23 points.
With a record of 2-12(1-8 in conference play) the LadyTigers lead the nation in three pointers and are nationally ranked in steals as well. The team is set to play two away games this weekend and will host their next game on February 10th against Maryville College.
