Freshman Sara Neil won the 200 yard Individual Medley and the 200 yard Butterfly, as well as winning the 200 yard medley relay, along with Haley Shepherd, Lizzie Black, and Maddie Merrill. Black also won the 200 yard Breaststroke. In the Men’s events, Jaime de la Fuente won the 200 yard Butterfly, Ryan Holody won the 100 yard Freestyle, and Philip Link won the 200 yard breaststroke. Will Overton was named Tiger of the Week after placing second in the 200 yard Freestyle, the 500 yard freestyle, and the 200 yard Freestyle Relay, along with Anthony Caskey, John Richards, and Courtland Day.
In their first meet back at Sewanee, the Tigers defeated both their long-term rival Transylvania and newcomer LaGrange. The Women started the meet well by winning the 200 yard Medley Relay. Sarah Neil again led the way, winning the 100 yard Butterfly by one hundredth of a second, and also placing first in the 200 yard Butterfly and the 400 yard Individual Medley. So far this year, Neil has the fastest times in the SCAC conference for the 100 and 200 yard Butterfly events. Distance swimmer Alix Kloster won both the Mile Freestyle and the 500 yard Freestyle, while Haley Shepherd won the 100 and 200 yard Backstroke events. Lizzie Black won the 200 Breaststroke, and then raced again less than a minute later in the 200 yard Butterfly. Diver Kaitlyn Breiten racked up Women’s Team points winning competing in both the 1-meter and 3-meter Diving events, and winning the 3-meter.
The men performed exceptionally as well, also winning the 200 yard Medley Relay. Will Overton winning both the 200 yard Freestyle and the 400 yard Individual Medley, Philip Link won the 100 and 200 yard Breaststroke events, and Jaime de la Fuente won the 100 and 200 yard Butterfly events. In the distance events, Peter Schildknecht placed first in the Mile Freestyle and Courtland Day placed first in the 500 yard Freestyle. Additionally, Marcus Rochelle won the 100 yard Backstroke and Ryan Holody won the 100 yard Freestyle. Victor Cresenzo won the 3-meter Diving. Unable to swim many events due to health reasons, Team Captain Cole Larson dove instead, winning the 1-meter Diving.
The Swimming and Diving Team will compete against Center College and Union College this weekend, here at Sewanee.
