The Sewanee Tigers hit the road again on the weekend of the 5th to play double-headers in Memphis and Birmingham. The men's and women's teams traveled together, as they have all year. While none of the four games were won, there were some high points scored. The teams were first pitted against the Rhodes' Lynx on Friday. Facing a "blackout," the men's team started strong.
Among taunting and jeering, the half ended 24-22 in the Tigers' favor. Tyler Brown and Tony Marelle managed 7 rebounds apiece. Though, in the end, Rhodes took the lead and won the game. The situation seemed to reverse for the women. In the first half, they lagged behind 49-13, but, during the second half, the Sewanee women closed the gap. Lauren Gulley and Juliene Joyner scored double digits during the game and Alex Ginsburg had 9 rebounds.
At Birmingham-Southern, the men's team did not start the game off well. At halftime, they were losing by 11 points; after the half, however, they picked it up a little. The leading scorer was freshman, Brett Bouldin. Trent Williams led the team in rebounds. This put the men's record at 4-17 and 1-12 in the conference. The women lost as well, though they fought hard with double-digit scorers including Lauren Gulley, Dani Kabbes, and Logan Miller. Dani also lead in rebounds for the team.
The Lady Tigers continue to hold onto various national accolades. The women are first in three pointers per game, 12th in steals, and fifth in turnover margin. The teams will play their next game Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Oglethorpe.
